At Chelmsford Dance Centre, we pride ourselves on offering a wide variety of competition opportunities for our pupils. Whether you're new to dancing or an experienced competitor, there's something for everyone. Competitions provide a fantastic platform to showcase your skills, build confidence, and connect with the wider dance community. Below, we explore the different types of competitions we offer and how you can get involved.
Team Matches
Team matches are an exciting way to represent Chelmsford Dance Centre alongside your peers. In these events, our adult, juvenile, and junior teams compete against teams from other dance schools in the same age brackets. The goal? To establish the winning school!
These matches not only foster a sense of camaraderie but also allow participants to experience the thrill of competing as a team. Additionally, team matches often feature a program of supporting competitions, giving dancers even more chances to shine on the floor.
Festivals
Festivals, such as the popular Rayleigh Festival, are medley events where dancers can perform as soloists, partnered with a teacher, or as a couple. These events are designed to celebrate individuality and creativity in dance, allowing participants to explore their unique style.
One of the highlights of the festival calendar is the Blackpool Medallist Grand Finals. Similar to other festivals, this prestigious event takes place in the iconic Empress Ballroom, often referred to as the spiritual home of ballroom dancing. Dancing in such an illustrious venue is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many competitors.
Dancerama's
Dancerama's are unique competitions held in our dance studio. Participants choose a performance dance and a basic dance, which are then judged using a visual marking system. These intimate competitions are perfect for honing your technique and receiving constructive feedback in a supportive setting.
In-House Competitions
Our in-house competitions are structured similarly to team matches but involve only pupils from Chelmsford Dance Centre. These events provide a safe and welcoming environment where dancers can develop their skills without the added pressure of external competitors. They are ideal for beginners or those new to competing.
Competition Structure
Most competitions are divided into grades that reflect the level of exams taken by our pupils, such as Bronze, Silver, and Gold as well as Above Gold grades. For those just starting their dance journey, we often host beginner or starter events to encourage new competitors to take to the floor with confidence.
